Legal Awareness Camp

(a) Legal Awareness Camp in South Tripura District

            Recognizing the need to impart legal awareness to women and girls, regarding their rights, the NCW has initiated a “Countrywide Legal Awareness Programme for Women and Girls”, which is to be implemented through State Commissions and NGO’s. As a part of this programme the TCW organized two Legal Awareness Camps in Udaipur, South Tripura District and in Ambassa, Dhalai District of Tripura. Both the programmers were sponsored by NCW. 

            The first was organized at Udaipur on Ist and 2nd June, 08 at the Conference Hall of the South Tripura Zilla Parishad. The programme was inaugurated by Smt. Maya Paul, Sabhadhipati, South Tripura Zilla Parishad. Sri Subrata Deb, Chairperson , Udaipur Nagar Panchayat was present in the inaugural session as Chief Guest. Two days Camp was presided over Dr.Tapati Chakraborty,Chairperson, TCW. Among the participants 52 were the elected representatives of three-tier Panchayat and 8 were representatives of NGOs.

             After the Business Session started at 10.30 a.m. on the first day Sri Amitabha Dasgupta, District & Session Judge of South Tripura District made overview of the Fundamental Rights, constitutional Remedies etc., Dr. Pratihari, the Director of State Forensic Laboratory, Narshinghar discussed in detail about the role of the forensic Dept. in detection of crime. Sri A.K.Nath, Counsellor, Family Court, Udaipur discussed regarding the role of Legal Service Authority etc. On the 2nd day Sri D.M. Jamatia, Judge Family Court, Udaipur discussed on Marriage Separation, Divorce, Maintenance, Adoption, Customary Law etc. Sri Prabhan Sarkar, the eminent lawyer, Sri Subrata roy, Legal Advisor of the TCW, Smt. Rehana Begam, TCW discussed the criminal law and women procedure for seeking redressal, rights of Muslim women etc. Dr. Tapati Chakravarti delivered lecture on PNDT Act and PWDVA. After every deliberation a 15 minutes time was kept for interaction and the participants made this session very lively throwing many relevant question.
