the Commission
Dr. Tapati Chakravarti,
Chairperson 1-4-2006
After resigning from the post of Principal, Ramkrishna
Mahavidyalaya, Kailashahar, Govt. Degree
College, Tripura, took
over
as Chairperson of the Tripura Commission for Women.
Doctorate in Economics, she taught economics in different
degree colleges of Tripura for 36 years of which 20 years
in Maharaja Bir Bikram College, Agartala, Tripura before
joining the post of Principal in Ramkrishna Mahavidyalaya,
Govt Degree College, , Kailashahar,Tripura in August,2005.
She was the member of the Tripura Commission for Women
from 1994-2003 and the member of Tripura University Senate
and Syndicate. She was involved in literacy works in the
grass-root level. Currently, she is the member of the
governing body of State Literacy Mission Authority, State
Supervisory Committee on PC & PNDT Act, State Advisory
Committee of State Legal Services Authority and Advisory
Board to Recommend Premature Release of Prisoners.
She has research publications and books to her credit
which include amongst other, Economic Participation of
Rural Tribal Women of Tripura ; Status of Women in Tripura
; A Situational Analysis of Women and Girls in Tripura.
Smt. Sumitra Debbarma,
Vice-Chairperson; 01-04-2006
As a social activist she has been
working among the tribal people of Tripura. Currently she
is one of the members of Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous
District Council (TTAADC), member of the State Committee
of Ganamukti Parishad and State Committee of Ganatantrik
Nari Samiti, Tripura.
Smt. Rajlaksmi Devi,
Member; 01-04-2003
A social worker. Served the Department of School
Education, Govt. of Tripura, in
different capacities such
as Joint Director, Deputy Director, Head Mistress,
Assistant Teacher of Higher Secondary School, Deputy
Principal TTAADC. She has been serving Tripura Commission
for Women since 2003. Currently, she is Secretary of
Kasturaba Gandhi National Memorial Trust, President Shishu
Mahal Mangal and a Member of Adivashi Mahila Samity.

Smt. Sumitra Majumder,
Member; 01-04-2006
Graduated with Honours. Renowned Social activist and also
grass-root political worker. She is also an elected member
of Paschim Tripura Zilla Parishad; and member of Education
& Health Standing Committee of Zilla Parishad.
Smt. Aditi Sharma Lodh,
Member 01-04-2006
M.A., LL.B. Advocate, practicing in the Hon’ble Gauhati
High Court, Agartala Bench; working against immoral
trafficking and for the help of the children through
different NGOs;
Smt. Siuli Deb Barma,
Member 01-04-2006
B.A.,B.Ed, B.T.Social activist. Served as Headmistress of
Govt. High School, from 1990 to 1999, Assistant Head
Mistress from 1986-1990, Assistant Teacher from 1960-1986
under Govt. of Tripura. Honoured her as Ideal Teacher on
5th September 1997 (Government Teacher Award from the
State Government in the year 1997).
Smt. Rehana Begum,
Member 01-04-2006
M.A,
LL.B. practicing Lawyer. She is a grass-root political
worker. Currently she is one of the Members of Paschim
Tripura Zilla Parishad and Member of the Standing
Committee for Education. She is a social worker.
Smt. Jaya Barman,
Member Secretary
Initially
started as Mukhya Sevika in the Family & Child Welfare
Project, Sabroom in 1969. From 1974-2003 she served in the
Department of Social Welfare & Social Education, Govt. of
Tripura in various capacities. In 2003 she has been
deputed to Tripura Commission for Women as Member
Secretary.
