Awareness Generation Programme
For making women aware about their rights and with the aim of preventing different forms of atrocities perpetrated on them, programme of awareness generation was given top most priority by the Commission during the period under report. On 2nd July, 2006, the Commission had launched “Chalo Gaon Ki Ore,” the programme conceptualized by the National Commission for Women for generating awareness among the rural women about their rights to be implemented throughout the country by the State Commissions. The Chief Minister, Government of Tripura, inaugurated the programme. Dr. Malini Bhattacharji, Member of the NCW and Sri Manik Dey, Minister of Social Welfare and Social Education, Govt. of Tripura were also present in the programme. The book, Chalo Grame Jai, translated in Bengali by the TCW from Meera Didi se Poocho, the training manual prepared and published by the NCW for the purpose, had also been ceremonially published by the Chief Minister in that programme. Since almost 31 per cent of the total female population of the State belonged to tribal communities, the commission translated Meera Didi se Poocho also in tribal language, Kokbarak, the second Government language in the State. Like preceding year, during the year under report, the Commission continued ‘Chalo Grame Jai’ and conducted 17 awareness generation programmes under the said programme among the rural women regarding their rights at State, District, Block & Panchayat level throughout the State. The Sabhadhipatis of Zilla Parishads, Chairpersons of Panchayat Samities, Nagar Panchayat, Block Advisory Committees (TTAADC), Pradhans and Upa-Pradhans of Gram Panchayats and Chairpersons of Village Committees (TTAADC), Nehru Yuba Kendra, Functionaries of Block Administration, Medical Officers, Police Officers, CDPOs of the Dept. of Social Welfare and Social Education (SWE), NGOs, Social Activists Anganwadi Workers and Women’s Organizations were involved in those programmes.
Apart awareness generation programmes organized on almost all legislations relating to women under the heading Chalo Grama Jai, programmes were conducted on Dowry Prohibition Act, Compulsory Marriage Recording Act, PWDVA, 2005, Save Girl Child, etc., separately by the Commission during the year under report. Statement regarding time, place, resource persons and number of participants of the programmes can be seen in Statement 2 in Appendix. During the the year under report, the Department of Social Welfare and Social Education and the Tripura Commission for Women jointly observed the International Women’s Day and Anti-Dowry Campaign Week.
