The Commission gave top most priority on awareness generation programmes for the public in general and women in particular. During the year under report the Commission visited all Sub-Divisions under four districts including the remote areas of hills and plains of the State to reach the women and to make them aware about their rights.
Apart from that, the Commission attended many seminars on women related issues like Women’s Human Rights, Domestic Violence, Women’s Participation in Decision Making, Economic Empowerment of Women, etc. and workshops on Laws Affecting Women including PC_PNDT Act and Legal Awareness Programmes organized by the Tripura University, Degree Colleges, NSS Units under Plus Two Schools and different Departments of the State Government. One of the activities of the Commission was to impart education and training to elected members of PRIs in the State regularly on women related acts and legislations at the request of the concerned Department. The Commission also attended various awareness generation programmes for public in general and for women in particular throughout the state organized by different NGOs, Nehru Yuba Kendra, Women’s Organizations and local Clubs during the period under report.
Facts finding comprehensive studies, paying special attention to the needs and problems of women in rural and urban areas of the State, were undertaken by the Commission. For selecting areas of study and arranging their publications, a committee was constituted during the period under report. An Editorial Body was also formed for bringing out the quarterly news bulletin ‘Jago Nari’ during the year.
During the year under report the Commission conducted workshops and seminars on contemporary issues relating to women and Legal Awareness Camps under the sponsorship of the National Commission for Women. The Commission maintained it’s networking with the National Commission for Women, the Women’s Commissions of other States and attended meetings, seminars and workshops convened or organized at times by the NCW and the State Commissions.
